Stand Firm in Your Truth
Sticking to your truth – standing up for yourself – is not always an easy feat. From a young age, many of us have been taught that we are to be seen and not heard. We are made to feel that our opinions don’t matter. Outsiders inundate us with the best choices to make for our lives to ensure success – the path of least resistance. When we are asked what we want to be when we grow up, our ideas, our dreams, can be met with resistance from others, even ridiculed at times. And sometimes we are even told that our dreams are hogwash.
As an independent adult, I find myself sticking to my truth and standing up for myself more often. The more I do it, the more I exercise this right, this freedom of mine, the stronger I feel. I am more connected to myself and feel I am being more of me. Not some watered down version of who others think I should be. Not someone trying to uphold the unsolicited expectations others try to place upon me. ME.
It is important to know that there will be times when others do not want to hear your truth. Oftentimes, they have already spun the truth in their own minds of what they want to hear come from your mouth. But that is their expectations and not your responsibility. Your only responsibility is to be true to yourself.
You have to honor yourself by standing firm in your truth. There is no way around it.
